I have been involved in youth leadership since 2016 and in that time what a journey it has been.
I started off as being a member of various youth panels and now have progressed onto being a chair of a couple of them.
This has been a dream of mine for a number of years as I saw myself as someone who could lead a group of young people.
To get to this point in my youth leadership career took a lot of hard work and determination.
If I had to look back on my time as a youth leader I would say that I have come on so much as both a younger person and professional.
I’ve always wondered what advice I would give any young person who was considering becoming a young leader.
I think that advice would have to be go with your instincts when making key decisions as you will know what is best for the group of young people that you are working with.
Over the years I have been working hard to develop my personal leadership philosophy however I still feel there is room for improvement within that.
I am not a perfect young leader however I continue to make changes to my leadership style so that I can be the best possible leader.
I strongly believe that this leadership journey has allowed me to understand what I want to do in life as I have struggled to figure out what my chosen career should be.
No leader is perfect and that is something that I would say to any young person who is wanting to start their leadership journey.
Leading a group of young people is about finding what style of leadership is best for you so I would advise any young person to experiment with a few styles to work out which one is best for them.
As my youth leadership journey comes to an end I would like to say that I am so proud of the people that I have worked with on this journey as they have allowed me to develop so much as a person.
In summary being a good leader is about understanding the group of people that you are working with and what they require to be the best possible leaders that they can be.
