Why I am passionate about Equality and Diversity

Last week was Equality,Diversity and Human Rights week for 2021.

I wanted to write a blog to reflect on why these topics are passions of my mine.

I have Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus meaning that I use a wheelchair.

In 2016 I created the young persons network with a view to giving all disabled young people aged between 11 and 18 and equal voice if they live in Herefordshire.

This is where my passion for Equality and Diversity really developed as I realised that it is important that young people are heard by all.

Over the last four years I have continued to speak out for those who aren’t able to as I believe that they have the right to be heard.

Nobody should be abused by anybody for either the way they look or how they come across as everybody is unique.

If I had to give a message to all young people then it would be this: please think about what you say and how it may affect somebody as I have been a victim of not being treated equally.

In my opinion it is so important that all individuals are treated the same regardless of who they are or where they come from.

I will continue to work with young people across the country to educate them about what is and isn’t acceptable to say to others in our society.

I hope that Equality, Diversity and Human Rights week raises awareness of these growing issues as it is important everybody is aware of them.

I hope that you will find to this blog interesting and informative as these are subjects that are very close to my heart and ones that I will keep talking about.

Just because I am in a wheelchair it does not mean that I am any different to your average human being and I will continue to spread this message for years to come.

Please help me by spreading this message to all the individuals that you come across in society as it is so important that everybody understands why Equality and Diversity is so important.
