Leaving a big part of my youth leadership journey behind

Today I have left probably the biggest part of my youth leadership journey to date behind.

For the last 18 months since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic I have been the chair of the Herefordshire FA youth Council.

It was an incredible opportunity to be charged with leading this incredible council through some very uncertain times.

The youth Council at Herefordshire FA were all shielding at the beginning of the pandemic meaning we chose to operate virtually.

We were one of the only youth councils in England to continue operating during the coronavirus pandemic.

I am extremely proud that we were able To continue our vital work in engaging with young people whilst they weren’t able to play a game that they love.

I am also extremely proud that I was able to lead this group of passionate youth leaders with my best friend Dan.

I have known Dan since birth and because of that I have loved sharing this journey with him over the last year or so.

I have loved facing these unique challenges with somebody that I trust as far as I could thrown them.

As we say goodbye to this chapter in our lives I would like to place on record my thanks to Dan for all his support over these last few months.

I may have driven him round the twist however I know that he is also proud of what we were able to achieve.

Our highlight of this last year was leading the youth Council through a very successful podcast series.

In this podcast series we spoke about topics such as Mental Health, Hate Crime, Gender & Discrimination and Disability.

As a result of this work I was named the FA and McDonald’s rising star of the year for 2021 at the grassroots awards.

I was not expecting to receive this honour as I have only completed this work because I wanted to as I enjoy it.

I would like to end this blog by placing on record my thanks to the team at Herefordshire FA for their support during the last 18 months as we have navigated through COVID-19.
