As hate crime awareness week for 2021 draws to a close I wanted to write a blog about the words that can be classed as hurtful.
In the last year I have been called cripple a number of times on social media.
As this happens on a regular basis to me I have learnt to brush it off.
However in 2021 this should not be happening but I accept that it still happening because of a lack of education.
This is not just a lack of education for young people but adults as well.
I am fed up to the back teeth of having to put up with this type of hate as I cannot change the way I am.
I would absolutely love to be able to walk but life dealt me the card that it did.
I wish that I didn’t have to hear people call me things such as a cripple because I am not one and never have been.
If I could I would sit down with every young person and adult who thinks it’s acceptable to say hurtful things to me and ask them why they did it.
Unfortunately I would be here for years if I did this as I experience so much hate in society because of my disability.
If hate crime awareness week has taught me anything this year it is that hate crime is at its worst.
I really do not want to be having to write blogs like this one but this is the only way that I feel I can start to tackle this issue head-on.
If I had to give a message to young people and adults then it would be this, Please consider what you say and who it might affect as you don’t know how these things will affect the victim.
I would like to end this blog by thanking everybody who has supported me over the years but especially during the last week as it has been hate crime awareness week.
