Last week marked the start of the very first disability history month.
I wanted to write a blog about it as I live with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus meaning I use a wheelchair.
I am glad that over the next few weeks the disabled community will be cerebrated in a positive way for who we are and we do.
I have found living with a disability difficult at times because I haven’t been accepted in a positive way by those living in our society.
I am hoping that disability history month will go a long way to show everyone living in our society that our community is just like them.
I have faced many challenges over the years including being discriminated against because people struggle to accept me for who I am.
I might be in a wheelchair but that doesn’t mean that I can’t live a full and independent life as possible.
If I had to give a message to those living in our society then it would be this – please think about what you do and say because you don’t know who it will affect.
I have spent the last few months and years attempting to educate young people about how there words and actions will affect others.
I can’t wait to see how the very first disability history month unfolds over the next month and years to come.
I hope that I will now start to be accepted for who I am.
Thank you again yet to my readers and followers for taking the time out of their busy schedules to read this last blog post.
