Being a disabled young person who’s passionate about Careers Education for those young people with disabilities

On Thursday January 20th 2022 I was given the opportunity by the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC) to share my story with careers leaders and enterprise hub coordinators from across England.

I told them about my background in education and how I had successfully completed mainstream primary and secondary school education.

I then went on to talk about why I am a massive advocate for apprenticeships as I believe that they are the way forward for those who are not academic.

Those in attendance we are really keen to hear my unique experience of apprenticeships as I had effectively completed one from home.

At the end of my presentation they asked me what I enjoyed about doing an apprenticeship from my bedroom for the best part of the year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

I told them that I loved it because if I have been in an office environment I believe that I would have struggled to complete coursework because of the fast Paced environment that I was working in.

At the my presentation I showed a video of my story because I want to be able to help other young people with disabilities who are considering their careers education options when leaving education.

I am incredibly proud of the time that I spent on the Careers and Enterprise companies youth advisory group because it gave me the opportunity to stand up for young people with disabilities who are looking at there next steps in careers education.

I plan to continue being an advocate for young people with disabilities who are considering their careers education options because this is something that I struggled to do as a 16-year-old living with cerebral palsy.

I would like to place on record my thanks to everybody at the Careers and Enterprise company and the British Youth Council Who have supported the incredible work of the Careers and Enterprise companies youth advisory group since it was developed 18 months or so ago.

As always I would like to end my blog by thanking both my readers and followers for taking time out of their busy schedules to read yet another one of my blogs.
