At the last minute yesterday industrial action was called off by rail workers ahead of 3 days of planned strikes that were due to start today (Saturday, November 5th).
As a member of the disabled community I’m delighted by this news because I rely on the rail network to be as independent as I possibly can.
In a blog that I published yesterday (Friday, November 4th) on this very issue I spoke about how the train strikes have impacted our community in recent months.
A few months I was stopped from attending an Aston Villa match as a result of some planned industrial action by railway unions.
I have written a lot about how I rely on the rail network since I started blogging in April last year.
I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t concerned about the planned industrial action on Wednesday (9th of November) earlier this week because I’m meant to be travelling to Manchester for a few days on Thursday (10th of November)
if the action had gone ahead this would have been potentially an absolute nightmare on Thursday (10th, Nov) for me because of sets (trains) being displaced as a result of the industrial action.
In the course of this action rail operators have laid on rail replacement buses that they say are wheelchair accessible but I don’t believe this to be the case.
I hope that this action doesn’t re occur next year (2023) as it will cause me undue stress and heartache.
I am excited to begin travelling on trains in the next few weeks once again following this period of uncertainty that started at the beginning of this year.
I know that I have written a couple of blogs of this subject in a very short space of time but I have done so because I am very passionate about this issue.
I am aware that this blog is relatively short however I wanted to give my reaction to this news as soon as it broke because of its significance for disabled community
I would like to once again thank my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
