Disability History Month 2022

This week is the start of disability history month and I wanted to celebrate it by writing a blog because I have cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus.

As I have written in many of my previous blogs I was born incredibly early and weighed half a bag of sugar.

I wanted to focus this blog around the changing attitudes towards the disabled community in recent years.

When I was growing up I didn’t really face any discrimination or I wasn’t aware that I did but in recent years that has completely changed.

The general public have become more intolerant to us and what we believe in and for me that is very sad because we should all be accepted for who we are.

I have also been reflecting on the film Breathe which is about a gentleman who contracts the polio virus in the 1950s.

He is basically was written off and left to die because disability wasn’t accepted in the 50s

I am glad that medical science has moved on since then meaning that I wasn’t written off when I was born 15 weeks early in 1996.

I strongly believe that is where my fighting spirit comes from and why I am a passionate disability rights campaigner.

I believe that all young people have the right to be heard and speak out if they are passionate about an issue that matters to them.

There is still a lot of work to do when it comes to getting organisations and professionals to listen to us.

I also accept the people reading this may question why am writing a blog to celebrate disability history month but I believe it is an important month celebrate our Indifferences within society.

If there were no indifferences within our society then the world would be a boring place because everybody would be the same.

I’ve been blogging since April 2021 and I believe it is the best decision that I’ve ever made because it gives me the opportunity to speak out and be heard.

A few years ago I wrote a blog called speak out be heard for the British youth Council when they were supporting me on my youth leadership journey.

In that blog I spoke about why it’s incredibly important young people are the leaders of tomorrow because we have a massive opportunity to make some incredible change.

I would like to thank all those who have supported me to achieve my goals during my 26 years on planet earth because they have shown me that if I put my mind to something I can achieve it.

Before I end this blog I would like to remind everybody to be kind and considerate to all members of our society no matter what there circumstances are.

Thank you to all my readers and followers who take the time out of their busy schedules to read my blogs it is much appreciated.
