World Prematurity Day 2022

Today is world Prematurity day and as somebody who was born 15 weeks early I wanted to write a blog to mark this very important day.

As I have written in many of my blogs I was born at 25 weeks weighing just half a bag of sugar.

I spent the first three months of my life in hospital fighting to stay alive.

At Just a few months old I was transferred to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for a brain operation to have a VP shunt fitted because fluid was unable to drain away from my brain.

Following this complex surgery I was returned to the special care baby unit at Hereford county hospital to continue my fight for life.

In October I celebrated the 26th anniversary of this surgery and I’ve written blog about my feelings on this which will be released in 2023.

I haven’t let having Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus stop me from living my best life.

I am an Aston Villa fanatic and often head to Villa Park in Birmingham to watch claret and blue take on a wide range of opponents.

I have also recently defeated Herefordshire Council after a four year battle to get more drop curbs on the pavements in Herefordshire.

I recently wrote a blog about what it is like having Hydrocephalus and living with the fear of when my next brain surgery is going to come.

Whenever that day arrives I will tackle lt head on as a 26 year old because I understand and recognise what it is like to be in one of your darkest moments.

The one piece of advice I would give it to anybody who was either born premature or has a young person who was born early would be this.

Live your best life as you have already been through so much, whatever you face in the future will be incredibly easy to tackle.

I find writing blogs of this nature incredibly difficult because they are on topics that are incredibly close to home for both myself and those around me.

I find writing blogs on sensitive topics a way of dealing with any fears or concerns that I have about the topic.

I recognise that this is another incredibly short blog but I wanted to mark world prematurity day.

I am proud of who I am and what I have achieved both this year and in my life. However I would be lying to you if I did admit that this year has also been incredibly challenging because of the abuse I have faced from members of our society.

I would like to end to my blog in the normal way by taking the opportunity to thank both my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
