On Tuesday the 22nd of November (Yesterday) the RMT union announced further industrial action next month and into early 2023.
The industrial action is due to take place on the 13th,14th & 16th, 17th of December 2022.
There will also be further strike action by the union of the 3rd,4th & 6th, 7th of January 2023.
This will have a massive impact on the disabled community, especially those who use wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
I rely on trains to get around independently as a wheelchair user, so these strikes are going to have a massive impact on my quality of life.
I travel on trains at least once a month from Hereford to various destinations across the United Kingdom.
I can’t just jump in a car and travel around the United Kingdom independently because I’m unable to drive due to my disabilities.
I’m incredibly angry by the news that more strike action is coming because I was led to believe that industrial action had been suspended until at least spring next year.
I am incredibly disappointed that I’m having to write another blog about an issue that I’ve talked about so many times this year already.
If I had to give a message to the RMT union then it would be this: please bring this dispute to a resolution quickly before you have an impact on the mental health of the disabled community.
Please also act before it’s too late and someone loses there mental health battle as a result of this action.
My mental health has already suffered enough this year so I don’t need anything else to worry about right now.
I will be cancelling my rail card when it next expires because I feel that I’m not getting full use of it.
I would also like to reiterate the need for accessible rail replacement buses as many of these services are your bog standard coaches meaning that are not wheelchair accessible .
I know that this is another short blog but I want to give my reaction to this news as a disability rights campaigner and wheelchair user.
As I always do I wanted to end by thanking both my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
