I am going to be trapped in doors, Herefordshire Council

I know that I blogged about the issue of winter weather provision in Herefordshire a few weeks ago.

However I believe that senior managers in charge of the roads at Herefordshire Council need to do more when it comes to protecting our most vulnerable during adverse weather incidents.

This week the temperatures in Herefordshire are set to plummet into minus figures and this will mean that those using wheelchairs and mobility scooters won’t be able to venture out and the elderly may be risk of having a fall if they venture out on untreated surfaces.

I raised this exact issue with Herefordshire Council back in 2019 and was told that they were not able to treat both the roads and pavement network as part of there winter operations plan.

I went out early this morning to have a look at the state of our pavement network now that the cold weather has started and I found that the pavements are currently in a good condition with virtually no ice or frost on them.

The local authority in Herefordshire need to act before it is too late and someone who is vulnerable either falls or sees there wheelchair or mobility scooter tip over because it hits an untreated patch of ice on the network.

if the conditions get any worse over the coming days which I believe is set to happen I will be forced to remain doors as the pavements will be impassable in my wheelchair.

My message to Herefordshire Council is a simple one: please, please, please treat our pavement network as I am sure that you wouldn’t want one of your loved ones to either tip over in there wheelchair or mobility scooter.

I also have concerns that the elderly may fall if they are hit a patch of untreated ice on our pavement Network, which could cause them serious harm.

I will continue to campaign on this issue for as long as it takes to get Herefordshire Council to acknowledge the issues that I am attempting raise with them.

As always I would like to thank both my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
