Why I find the thought of having a carer undignified

Today is Dignity Action Day and I have been thinking about why I find the thought of having a carer undignified.

I find this thought undignified because I do not want a random person supporting me with my personal care needs.

I would much rather have the support of either family members or a friend who I trust when it comes to my personal care and dignity needs.

I have never had the need for a carer in my 26 years on this planet who has not been either a member of my family or a close trusted friend.

As I head towards my 27th birthday later this year I am planning to stick with this point of view and continue receiving support from loved ones.

I also feel that having a carer would take away my independence and this is something that I do not want to do.

I am perfectly capable of showering and going to the toilet by myself and this is something that I have done for a number of years now.

I am not at all embarrassed about writing a blog on this subject as I hope that it will help raise awareness of the subject “Dignity”.

This subject shouldn’t be shied away from in my opinion because it will help young people understand there rights in terms of dignity.

I know that those who are reading this are properly wondering why I am getting very excited writing this piece and that is because I want people to understand that they can choose who their carer is.

I might require the need for a carer in the future and I will be ensuring that it is either a family member or close trusted friend.

I know that this is another very short blog but I wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate Dignity Action Day (DAD) and why it is important to me and many others who either have disabilities or other support needs.

As always I would to end by taking the opportunity to thank both my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
