Today (Monday the 6th of February, 2023) marks the start of National Apprenticeship Week for 2023.
As many of you will know apprenticeships are close to my heart because I completed one in Business Administration with the communications team at Herefordshire Council between February 2020 and April 2021.
I have written a separate blog to celebrate the second anniversary since I completed the course and what means to me.
I learnt so much during the 12 months that I was on programme including how to make your social media posts look appealing.
I also learnt about how to remain calm when you have journalist’s on the other end of the phone demanding information here and now.
This particular apprenticeship did test my resilience because of some of the situations that I found myself in.
I am a huge believer in what apprenticeships can do for those who are less academic because of factors such as disability.
The Careers and Enterprise Company asked me to share my careers education story with SEND Careers Leaders and Enterprise Hub Coordinators last year as they hoped that my story would inspire other young people embarking on similar journey to mine.
I absolutely loved this opportunity because it allowed to share the highs and lows of what it is like exploring your post 16 options as someone with a disability.
As part of this talk I shared the video talking about my apprenticeship journey as a 24 year old.
I don’t regret doing an apprenticeship or 2 in my 20s because I understand what the benefits of doing this are.
I would urge any young person with disabilities who is exploring there post 16 options to consider completing an apprenticeship or internship because they are an incredible experience.
I know that this is another very short blog but I wanted to share my journey as an apprentice in an area that I am very passionate about.
I would to place on record my thanks to Riverside Training and the Communications Team at Herefordshire Council for all the support that I was given during my time on programme, I cannot put into words how grateful I am.
I would like to end in the normal way by taking the opportunity to thank both my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
