Today (Monday the 6th of March 2023) marks the start of Hydrocephalus Awareness Week for 2023 so I thought that I would write a blog to celebrate both that and the 27th anniversary of my first brain surgery which takes place this October.
I have a device called a VP shunt in my head that is designed to drain excess fluid away from my brain because it’s unable to do it for itself.
Every few years this device needs to be replaced in hospital under general anaesthetic.
My last shunt revision was in January 2008 and then it took me a week or so to recover from the surgery.
Since 2008 I have been of good health and have been able to live a relatively normal life.
It does concern me being readmitted into hospital for a further brain surgery.
When that day finally arrives I know that I will be ready to tackle it head on.
Having brain surgery isn’t for the faint hearted and writing a blog on this issue has been incredibly difficult for me.
I’m meant to see my Neuro Surgeon ever 2 or so years but I haven’t seen them since 2014.
I’m now just waiting for the day when I become incredibly unwell and need to be hospitalised.
As always I would like to thank both my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
