Luton Town win the 2023 sky bet championship play-off final and secure their place in the Premier League.

This afternoon Coventry City took on Luton town in the sky bet championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

Coventry haven’t been in the top flight of English football since 2001, however, there has been an even longer wait for their opponents Luton Town who haven’t been in the top fight of English football since 1982.

Coventry city have been on a whirlwind journey since getting promoted from league two back in 2017.

The sky blues manager, Mark Robbins has taken them from the very bottom of the English football league to within one game of being known as a Premier League side.

Coventry took on Middlesbrough over a two legged tie to make it into the most expensive match in football.

Luton Town have had a remarkable season in the sky bet championship under manager, Rob Edwards.

They very quickly made it into the playoffs, and took on Sunderland in a 2 leg semi final to make it into today’s match at Wembley Stadium.

As many of you, my readers and followers will know, Luton Town rose to fame when they took on Liverpool in the in the third round of the 2006 FA Cup.

Liverpool went on to win that match by five goals to Luton’s three, but it is something the followers of Luton Town haven’t forgot.

Luton Town scored the opening goal of the game on the 22nd minute and it was Jordan Clarke who netted for the Hatters.

The Hatters went into the half time break with a one goal advantage after referee Michael Oliver brought the half to a close.

The sky blues made a change at half time by replacing Jamie Allen with Matt Godden.

Coventry’s Gus Hamer scored our equaliser on the 66 minute, giving us hope of reaching the top fight of English football for the first time since 2001.

Mark Robins makes Coventry’s second substitution of the match by replacing Gus Hamer with Kasey Palmer.

The Hatters also made there second substitution of the match by replacing Alfie Doughty with Fred Onyedinma just after the 80 minute.

There were 8 minutes of additional time at the end of the match just like there was at the end of the first half.

Referee Michael Oliver brought the match to a close with the score at 1-1 meaning that we headed into extra time.

Sky Blues manager, Mark Robins made his next substitution of the match at the start of extra time by bringing on Fankaty Dabofor to replace Brooke Norton cuff.

Rob Edwards, the manager of Luton Town made his next substitution in the 8th minute of extra time by bringing on Luke D Berry to replace Pelly Ruddock.

Mark Robins also made another change for his Sky Blues side by bringing on Josh Eccles to replace Kasey Palmer.

The first period of extra time drew to a close with the score remaining level at 1-1.

The Hatters manager, Rob Edwards made another substitution at the start of the second period of extra time by bringing on Joe Taylor to replace Elijah Adebayo.

The Hatters made yet another substitution in the second period of extra time by bringing on Dan Potts to replace Gabriel Osho.

Coventry City also made another substitution in preparation for the penalty shootout by bringing on Jonathan Penzo to replace Callum Doyle.

The referee, Michael Oliver added on an additional 2 minutes to the end of the 120 before we headed in to the dreaded penalty shootout.

Coventry keeper Ben Wilson needed to channel his inner Emi Martinez going into the penalty Shootout.

Coventry City missed there first penalty of sudden death after Luton scored there’s meaning they were promoted to the Premier League.

I know that this is a very long and boring blog but I wanted to blog about one of the biggest games in football featuring 2 incredible sides that are Coventry City and Luton Town.
