Does not having access to the pavement network as the disabled community breech our human rights

Since I won my fight to get more drop curbs on the pavements in Herefordshire for the disabled community i’ve been left questioning whether having to use the roads as our pavement is against our human rights.

Why should we be forced to use the roads as our pavement just because of the lack of drop curbs.

I strongly believe that local authorities are giving the green light for us to be hurt or even worse killed by refusing to install drop curbs on the country’s pavement network.

I’m lucky that here in Herefordshire they do care about the safety of the disabled community and have installed some drop curbs on the counties pavement network.

I have spoken to members of the disabled community from across the country recently and they’ve told me that the local authority in there area have refused to install drop curbs due to a lack of funding.

Last year I wrote to Jesse Norman MP, minister of state at the Department for transport and member of Parliament for Hereford and south Herefordshire.

I took the decision to write the letter because I believe that more needs to be done to ensure that the disabled community are safe when using our pavement network.

I have concerns that local authorities are breaching the human rights of the disabled community by forcing us to use the roads as our pavements because of the lack of accessible pavements.

I know that the government are going to respond to my letter by saying they cannot conduct a country wide pavement review because they don’t have the funding for it.

If this does happen his Majesty’s government are saying that they don’t care about the safety of our community.

As always I would like to thank both my readers and followers for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest blog.
