I travelled to the Utillita Arena in Cardiff this afternoon (Saturday the 16th of September, 2023) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Mrs Brown’s Boys.
This is the second time in two years that I have seen the cast of Mrs Brown’s Boys live in the Welsh capital, having seen there delayed show from 2020 at the same venue in July last year.
The show was based around Cathy’s psychiatrist boyfriend Professor Clowne who we first met in the 5th episode of the second series.
The cast featured the likes of Winnie, Grandad, Mark, Buster, Dermot, Maria and for the first time Mike Pyatt who plays Professor Clowne.
The show was meant to start at 2pm but didn’t underway until just after because the audience weren’t in their seats ready for the show to begin.
Mrs Brown started off by talking about the christening of Maria’s triplets and this fed into the introduction of Professor Clowne.
The cast also included Father Damien who made references to the Labour Party in an attempt to cover up mammy’s surprise birthday party which was also featured in the show.
Mrs Brown then made reference to fucking Thomas as Cathy answered the phone in an attempt to hide the surprise party for Agnes.
Mrs Brown finally got to answer the phone to Professor Clowne when he rang to invite Cathy out for the evening and she answered it by saying hello “Horn Ball”.
The Professor was introduced to the audience in Cardiff as he asked Agnes if he could carry out the reaction test on her.
Agnes returned to the stage a few scenes later referring to Thomas as a Bastard as he attempted to ask her if he could interview her as part of some research for his book.
A few scenes later Winnie gets the terrible news that her husband Jacko has been rushed to hospital.
Agnes then made reference to the fact that it’s not a fucking bypass that Winnie’s husband Jacko needs but a bus pass because of the amount of buses she has to take in order to visit him.
The scene ended with grandad shouting hello and banging his stick from upstairs for attention and Mrs Brown replied with fuck off.
Cathy and the rest of the family then started discussing putting Spartacus the family dog into a home and Agnes mistakenly thought that they are discussing her.
Agnes then headed upstairs in a mood after overhearing her children talking about this and returned to the stage in running gear because she thought her children wanted her to get fit.
She only however managed 1 lap of the house before requiring some water because she was out of breath.
The second half of the production saw the cast continue to make reference to Jacko Winnie’s husband being in hospital and Professor Clowne wanting Agnes’s help with research for his book.
Mrs Brown’s children then had to inform her that Spartacus had passed away in this part of the show and there was a discussion around who would break the news to her.
After much debate it was finally decided that her son Dermot and daughter Cathy would be the ones to break the terribly sad news to an upset Mrs Brown.
Maria, Mrs Brown’s daughter in law clearly doesn’t trust her husband’s best friend, Buster as she gives him a right good stair when he comes over to see her husband.
Agnes then attempts to feed her dog Spartacus but forgets to open the food for her beloved pet before giving it to them so chucks a can opener outside for the pouch.
Trevor then talks to his mammy about her house being to overcrowded and wanting to move out, however these weren’t his lines in series 2 of the sitcom.
They were actually delivered by Rory on Tv but had to be changed for the stage production because Rory doesn’t feature.
I found most of the show confusing and not funny compared to the television show which first aired 10 years ago.
Winnie then helps Agnes with her Bikini waxing in a downstairs cupboard and starts by telling her to take her knickers down.
Mrs Brown then heads upstairs in a great deal of pain with Winnie after counting to 180 before pulling off the waxing strip.
Agnes then tells her son Mark that he will need to catch her before he can take her out on Friday night for her surprise birthday party because she still thinks that she’s going to be put into a home.
Professor Clowne then gets very upset during his interview with Agnes because she makes references about his mother who he didn’t have a great relationship with as a child.
I wasn’t at all surprised by the amount of sexual references that featured throughout the entire show.
