On Sunday, the 30th of October 2022 Aston Villa travelled to the capital and took on Chelsea at KingsMeadow.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes was still recovering from a hysterectomy however she was in attendance at Kingsmeadow but not in the dugout.
Chelsea started the match with the following 11 players: Ann Katrin- Berger, Mille Bright, Sophie Ingle, Lauren James, Guro Reiten, Magdalena Eriksson , Sam Kerr, Erin Cuthbert, Pernille Harder, Kadeisha Buchanan
On the substitutes bench for Chelsea were the following players: Jess Carter, Bethany England, Jessie Fleming, Niamh Charles,
Alsu Abdullina, Aniek Nouwen, Katerina Svitkova, Zećira Mušović.
Aston Villa started with the following 11 players: Anna Leat, Sarah Mayling, Anna Patten, Kirsty Hanson, Rachel Daly, Alisha Lehmann, Danielle Turner, Rachel Corsie, Kenza Dali, Laura Blindkilde-Brown, Mayumi Pacheco
On the substitutes bench for Aston Villa were the following players: Freya Gregory, Olivia McLoughlin, Natasha Harding, Isobel Goodwin, Anna Draper.
Aston Villa started brightly in the opening minutes of the match at Kingsmeadow.
Lauren James opened the scoring on the 21st minute to score her first goal for the club and make it 1-0 to Chelsea.
In the 23rd minute Kenza Dali took a shot from outside the box but this was saved by Chelsea keeper Ann Katrin Berger.
On the 31st minute Sam Kerr attempted to shoot from inside the Aston Villa penalty area but the shot was saved by villa goalkeeper Anna Leat.
Rachel Daly attempted to shoot from outside the Chelsea penalty area on the 34 minute but the ball flew past the Chelsea goal.
On the 37th minute Rachel Daly scored an equaliser for the villans.
The referee Martin Woods blew the half time whistle with the score level at 1-1.
Chelsea got the second half underway and within the first 90 seconds of the half Lauren James scored her second goal of the match to make it Chelsea women 2 Aston Villa women 1.
On the 52nd minute of the match villa head coach Carla Ward made her first change of the afternoon by bringing on Natasha Harding to replace Laura Blindkilde-Brown.
Chelsea’s Sam Kerr added a third goal on the 62nd minute of the match to make the score 3-1 to Chelsea women in west London.
On the 76th minute Chelsea made a double substitution by replacing Sam Kerr and Guro Reiten with Bethany England and Niamh Charles.
Then on the 80 minute Carla Ward makes her second substitution on the afternoon by replacing Rachel Corsie with Olivia McLoughlin.
The fourth official Ella Broad then indicated that there would be an additional 4 minutes at the end of the match.
Chelsea women won the match by 3 goals to 1 thanks to goals from Sam Kerr and Lauren James.
Rachel Daly did however get on the score sheet for Aston Villa in the first half.
The attendance at kingsmeadow was 4,373 with the majority of those being Chelsea supporters.
