I am disappointed and shocked by the comments that government minister, Laura Trott made in the media today about disabled people with mobility & mental health issues working from home.
Ms Trott said that our community must work from home in order to do our duty.
I absolutely loved completing my apprenticeship in Business Administration with Herefordshire Council a few years ago because it was something that I dreamed of doing for a number of years.
I was given the opportunity to work from home during my time with the council because of the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions that came with it.
I don’t feel that it is my duty to have a job as someone with a disability because I loved working with the communications team at Herefordshire Council for the 12 months that I did so.
The government ministers comments are clearly not thought through and should be in my opinion, retracted from all media outlets.
The chancellor of the exchequer, Jeremy Hunt will deliver his autumn statement in the House of Commons tomorrow morning, and I fear that the disabled community will be forgotten once again.
This wouldn’t be the first time that our community has been forgotten when it comes to a budget or autumn statement being revealed by a government.
I would like the government to apologise for today’s comments because they will not do the mental health of our community any good in the days, weeks and months ahead.
I already believe that the Conservative’s struggle to win the next general election, which is due to take place in 2024, and this will not help their election campaign.
I know that this blog is both short and to the point but I feel that it is important to address the comments made by the government today.
I would be interested to know the thoughts and opinions on the subject from those who read this piece.
