I have been left feeling a sense of shock, anger and disappointment since learning that the government have scrapped the full time role of Minister for Disabled People this morning.
I want to use this blog to explain why I feel Shocked, Angry and Disappointed by Rishi Sunak’s decision to scrap this vital role from government.
Shocked – During my lifetime there has always been a Minister for Disabled People with Alf Morris, the Member of Parliament for Wythenshawe in Manchester from 1964 to 1997 being appointed as the first post holder in 1974.
The final Member of Parliament to hold the position of Minister for Disabled People was Tom Pursglove the MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire who held the role from October last year until the 7th of December, when he was appointed to the position of Immigration Minister.
Angry – The Prime Minister shouldn’t just give the post duties to another government minister who already has a number of duties within there current role in government because they won’t put the hours into the duties championing our community.
Disappointed – I have disappointed and can only sum that up with these five simple words, We won’t have a voice, which will mean that we will be forgotten yet again.
I have a simple message for the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunk and it is this, Scrap your plans to re distribute the duties of the Minister for Disabled People role to another Minister in government because we all know that it will not work.
Why are you taking our voices away!!!!!!!!!
I know that this is my second post of the day but I felt that it was important to share my views as a disabled person to this news now that I have had time to digest it.
