I travelled down to the main residence of the monarch, King Charles III this afternoon and attended a garden party after being nominated to do so by the Department for Transport
My readers and followers will know that I travelled to the headquarters of the Department for Transport twice last year to meet with government ministers and discuss issues that I am incredibly passionate about.
I was congratulated on my successful pavement campaign where I lobbied Herefordshire Council to install 16 pairs of dropped curbs on two of Hereford’s busiest roads by then minister for Roads and Local Transport, Richard Holden MP.
I have since taken on West Midlands Trains and attempted to lobby the minister for Rail and HS2, Huw Merriman MP this task has been an incredibly difficult one.
The gates to the palace opened at around 3pm this afternoon with the party commencing around 60 minutes later when members of the royal family arrived on the steps of the west terrence that overlooks the garden.
I arrived at the party on my wheels after taking the tube from Reading to Royal Victoria tube station Which was about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the palace.
There were around 10,000 worthy guests in attendance including myself who had the opportunity to explore the gardens that aren’t normally open to members of the general public.
There was a splendid lake in the centre of the garden which proved the perfect back drop for photos.
I was hopeful that His Majesty King Charles III would be in attendance after it was announced by palace officials that he would return to public duties the week of the 29th of April, 2024.
The members of the royal family in attendance at this afternoons party included The Duchess’s of Gloucester and Edinburgh, the Duke of Edinburgh and Queen Camilla.
However I wasn’t spoken to by any members of the family because guest presentations are done at randon.
It was an honour to attend something that only a small minority of people are able to do in their life time.
The afternoon tea that was served during the party was incredible and there so much choice.
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me when I have embarked on my campaign trails over the last couple of years.
I would also like to thank the team at ITV News Central especially Rosie Dowsing who helped to share the challenges that I faced in attending this afternoon.
I was left feeling upset at the thought that I would miss the chance to attend the event after it was announced by the train drivers union, ASLEF that there would be further industrial action today.
The report by ITV led to some kind hearted individuals offering to drive me from Hereford to Buckingham Palace so that I didn’t have to miss out.
If you would like to watch the full report on the challenges that I faced getting to the capital it can be found below:
