This is Discrimination Coventry City and it’s disgusting, please change your stance on this.

Coventry City Football Club (CCFC) recently announced that they will charge their disabled supporters to bring a PA (Personal Assistant) with them to matches at the CBS Arena from next season.

I wrote to CCFC during the 2023/24 season expressing an interest in attending matches at the arena as a keen follower of the club.

CCFC’s ticketing team created fan ID’s for myself and my personal assistant so that we could attend matches at our convenience.

I have now decided not to attend Coventry City matches next season because I can’t afford to pay for my ticket and that of my Personal Assistant (PA) on top of train fare.

Personal Assistants are vital when the disabled community are attending live events like football matches because they support us with tasks that we find difficult whilst at the ground.

If the ground was forced to evacuate during matches our personal assistants would help stewards to both evacuate and keep us claim as the emergency unfolded.

They also support us with carrying food and drink when the venders to our seats in the ground, this is vital especially in my case.

As a disability rights campaigner and wheelchair user with a keen interest in the club I have the following message for them: Please consider changing this policy as no other clubs in the midlands have adopted this stance.

I’m gutted that I can’t afford to attend matches in Coventry next season because of this change in policy, even though I vowed to attend a match 10 years ago.

This is discrimination of the disabled community who support the club plain and simple, I’m disgusted and shocked.

If Aston Villa (the main football team) that I support adopted this stance – which I know they won’t, I would be gutted because I couldn’t afford to buy tickets and train fare to attend matches.

I know that this is a relatively short blog but I wanted to use it as an opportunity to vent my disgust at the announcement.
