This evening I received an email from Aston Villa to let me know that as a Pride Member I could purchase tickets for Villa’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on the 21st of September 2024.
When I logged into my account to see what (if any) wheelchair accessible tickets were available for the match, I was left gobsmacked.
I checked all blocks in row C from one to nice and then the accessible seating in the Holte end.
Much to my frustration there were limited seats in the stadium with the prices ranging from £55 to £72 depending on where the bay was located.
As someone on a low income I am not prepared to pay those prices on top of train fare.
As many of you, my readers and followers will know I spent much of the 2023/24 premier league season working with the team at West Midlands Trains (WMT) to improve the accessibility at Aston and Witton Lane stations.
Those with disabilities using the rail network on matchdays when travelling to and from the stadium have seen a much improved service at both stations.
I am on the verge of crying writing this post because I love visiting Villa Park to watch my beloved Villa and have done for many years.
My message Chris Heck, Aston Villa’s president is clear but simple, it’s completely ridiculous that you are forgetting your disabled supporters.
Supporters like me see visiting Villa Park as being normal for one day every other week and your are making that simple pleasure difficult to enjoy.
Being part of the pride has been incredible during the last few seasons and making the accessibility signage a reality at both railway stations near to our beautiful stadium was an honour.
Things have to change and it needs to happen now, not in 5 or 10 years time!!!!!!!
