Accessible waiting bays installed at Coventry Arena railway station to help local residents and football supporters travel with confidence

West Midlands Trains have installed accessible waiting bays on either platform at the station to help local residents and football supporters travel with ease on the rail network, if they have mobility issues or disabilities.

Coventry Arena station

This will mean that disabled football supporters from across the midlands and of course beyond can travel to and from matches at the CBS Arena with ease using the rail network, WMT (West Midlands Trains) chose the locations of the bays at the station earlier this year, following the successes of them at Witton Lane and Aston stations which are also in the region.

A blue and white box with a white wheelchair logo and the words “for mobility assistance, please wait here” inside ha been installed on both of the platforms, as shown below

I would like to repeat the message that I gave to supporters that use the station on the 26th of June 2024, now that the waiting bays have been installed at your station please be mindful of where you stand on the platforms as your fellow supporters with mobility issues will require access to them at all times.

Those requiring assistance to board trains at the station need to be seen by the event station staff and train crew once the train has arrived at the station.

When they were initially installed at Witton Lane station near to the home of Aston Villa, Villa Park supporters struggled to access the bays on each of the platforms because able-bodied supporters weren’t aware that they there and just stood anywhere on the platforms.

I do not want a repeat of the distress caused following Coventry City matches. The arena is the third out of a possible 7 stations to benefit from the signage this year and it is meant to be something positive for those with mobility issues and other disabilities who enjoy attending live sport by rail.

If you are a football supporter of CCFC or a local resident living near to the arena , remember you can book assisted travel in a number of different way’s:
