It’s not just men on women, it can be women on men too.

The best day of my life came 5 years ago when my girlfriend of 7 years walked out on me and moved 206 miles to the county of Kent.

I will not name girl in question, within this post who would physically and mentally abuse me if I did something that she didn’t like.

There was an occasion when we had decided to go out somewhere but she changed her mind so lay on my bed with her face down on my pillow and went into a full blown meltdown. This went on for several minutes and I couldn’t do anything to stop it. She did this as she wanted to make me feel to bad for doing absolutely nothing wrong.

On another occasion we headed into the local city centre and I said something that she didn’t like so she hit me at the bottom of my stomach in a bid to shut me up.

The last straw came when she decided to take an overdose so that I would sit up and notice of her because she believed that all I cared about was my disability activist work, this was not the case and never was.

To top it all off I am also disabled as I live with Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus, meaning that I use a wheelchair to navigate daily life.

I also wouldn’t have been able to work with the teams at Herefordshire Council and West Midlands Railway on my successful campaigns that I have completed since she left, if I had remained in a relationship with her as she didn’t support this work.

Shockingly 26% of men are victims of domestic violence by a partner and it is rarely talked about by victims or in the media.

I am pleased to say that I have moved on from that chapter of my life and have not let her win as she is a toxic individual who enjoys hurting people in both my experience and opinion.

Her Majesty the Queen, Camilla has been followed by ITV for the past year whilst carrying out her work around domestic abuse.

The documentary Her Majesty The Queen, Behind Closed Doors will air on ITV at 9pm on Monday November 11th 2024 which was shot by all female television crew.

If you have been affected by anything I’ve written in this piece I want you to both know that is okay to seek help and of course speak out, but only when you feel ready and able to.
