Storm Bert makes conditions on the pavement network difficult for those with disabilities across Herefordshire

The latest named storm (Bert) has hit Herefordshire making conditions across the counties pavement network for those using wheelchairs, mobility scooters and of course other types of walking aids very difficult.

I decided to venture out in the rain a little while ago to check out on the conditions of the pavement network for myself as a wheelchair user.

The network is incredibly wet and slippy in places especially where there are leaves lying on the ground that are soaking thanks to last weeks snow and ice.

When I hit a patch of leaves of the pavement not too far away from my house I found myself starting to slide all over a very wet piece of ground.

On this occasion I am not advising our community against venturing outside, I am just warning you to be careful both on the pavements themselves and when using any dropped curbs.

You may find that there is a large amount of standing water sitting over dropped curbs which will hide the curb meaning that you won’t be sure where the road network starts.

At the time of writing this piece the rain is coming quite hard meaning that driving conditions for vehicles will be very difficult, so I would you to be vigilant when out and about because drivers will be concentrating on the road conditions and not what you are doing.

The environment agency has just in the last few minutes issued a flood warning for Hereford.
