Surface water on the road network across Herefordshire and the Midlands thanks to the pavements being covered in water could put those who use wheelchairs and mobility scooters at risk of sliding off pavements into oncoming traffic.

Severe weather events are going to become more and more frequent in the United Kingdom, this is why we as a community need to work together to ensure that those who are most vulnerable stay safe at all times during these types of incidents.
I don’t enjoy writing these types of posts but understand that the general public need to be reminded of the risks that those who use wheelchairs, mobility scooters and walking aids, face when ice and rain hits the pavement network that we rely on
Since the start of this year we have experienced a number of weather warnings that have involved either ice, rain or snow which is of course as a direct result of climate change and the way our atmosphere is changing.
As someone who uses a wheelchair I understand how hazardous conditions can be when rain and wind comes into play, a few years a go I slid into the road towards an oncoming vehicle.

I would like to once again reiterate my messages from just a few days ago in which I said:
If you are a member of the disabled community who uses mobility aids , drivers will be not driving for you, they will be focusing on the road conditions that they are presented with, wind makes it a little more tricky.
Motorists should where possible keep an eye on the pavement network when approaching any junctions I do however appreciate how difficult this can be as you are presented with these conditions that you have to of course focus on.
Did you find this post about the risk of surface water on the road network for both motorists and the disabled community in particular those using wheelchairs or mobility scooters, if the answer is yes then why not subscribe and receive future ones direct to your inbox within just a few minutes of publication.
