3 more stations have accessible waiting spaces installed by West Midlands Trains after the success of them elsewhere in the region

West Midlands Trains (WMT) have installed accessible waiting spaces at another 3 stations across the network that they manage following the success of them at other railway stations in the region.

Selly Oak, Lye and Telford Central now have the waiting spaces on the platforms, meaning that more members of the disabled community will find it easier to travel by rail across WMT’s network.

Last year (2024) saw the rail operator install the spaces at Aston, Witton , Coventry Arena and The Hawthorns railway stations meaning that disabled football supporters from 3 of the regions football clubs and the residents living around them could travel by rail with ease.

It is fair to say that West Midlands Trains (WMT) have taken on board (sorry for the horrendous pun) my feedback and acted on it in such a positive way which has meant that the disabled community in the midlands can benefit from a service that is most definitely fit for purpose.

I would like to urge those using the latest round of stations to have the waiting spaces installed (Lye, Selly Oak and Telford Central) to be mindful of where they are standing of the platforms as those requiring assistance to board services will need access to the spaces at all times. This is so the train crew can see us on the platform once the train has arrived at the station.

The spaces could also mean that those visiting the west midlands rehabilitation centre (WMRC) which is based in Selly Oak can travel to and from their appointments at the centre by rail from all over the country and of course our region from now on if they so wish.

Worcester Forgate Street and Shrub Hill stations along with Kenilworth also have the spaces, these were also installed last year once a need for them was identified by the operator.

If you travel by rail on a regular basis and need assistance to both board or disembark services your assisted travel can be booked up 2 hours before departure in one of 3 ways and they are:

By Phone: 0800 024 8998 or by using Next Generation Text – 18001 0800 024 8998.
