The government has planned to make cuts worth 6 billion pounds to the welfare system, under the new plans it will be harder for people to qualify for Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
I am a wheelchair user who have claimed PIP for as long as I remember even when it was known as DLA (Disability Living Allowance), without it there would be no chance that I could live as independently as I currently do.
My wheelchair is funded by the NHS however there are things on it that the NHS will not fund because they are deemed as non essential, I’ve funded those things myself using PIP.
If I didn’t have them I wouldn’t be able to go out and about and live my best life with friends & family, the throught of this makes me feel quite emotional being a 28 year old.
My message to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Liz Kendall is a clear but simple one, you are stopping thousands of people from living independently by making these changes to the welfare system, people like me cannot live independently without PIP and there are thousands more people out there in the same boat.
I urge you and your departmental officials to think again and reform the system in a positive way so it is easier for those needing PIP to both claim and of course receive it.
The DWP and government clearly do not care about our community and that’s clear from this announcement, come on please do the right thing now and not in a year or so’s time.
It’s ridiculous that I am having to write another blog of this nature in an attempt to stand up for those who can’t speak out and be heard on this issue.
