Accessible waiting spaces installed on the platforms at Selly Oak railway station to benefit patients visiting the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre

The accessible waiting spaces that have been installed on the platforms at Selly Oak railway station near Birmingham are set to benefit the patients who visit the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre.

The centre which is ran by Birmingham Community Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust and is located just 900 meters away from the station, which sees services to the likes of Redditch, Four Oaks, Longbridge and Litchfield Trent Valley passing through.

Three trains every hour run from Selly Oak to Redditch, Four Oaks and Longbridge with 2 trains running from Selly Oak every hour during the day to Litchfield Trent Valley.

Having visited the WMRC (West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre) in my younger years I wish that the accessible waiting spaces would have been in place back then so that I could have had the option to attend appointments at the centre by rail.

I am delighted that the team from West Midlands Trains (WMT) recognised that there was a need for the spaces at Selly Oak, this is an important step in the project because I believe that the operator is beginning to see that certain stations could benefit from the spaces and those living in the area.

My message to other passengers using the station is a clear but simple one and is this, please be mindful of where you stand on the platforms, those needing assistance to board trains will need access to the spaces at all times whilst waiting for there train.

I would as always like to take the opportunity to thank all those involved in this project from West Midlands Trains, your efforts in recent months haven’t gone unnoticed and are very much appreciated. The disabled community who live across the rail network that you are responsible for can now travel with confidence and ease thanks to the installation of the waiting spaces at certain stations.

A thank you must also go to you, my loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest post, it doesn’t go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated.
