The gravel track into Hereford racecourse is an accident waiting to happen for those with mobility issues, who want to remain independent

The gravel track into Hereford Racecourse is “an accident waiting to happen” from the Highmore Street side of the course for those with mobility issues who use wheelchairs or mobility scooters to keep some level of independence.

As a local resident, racegoer, wheelchair user and disability activist I have this afternoon contacted the general manager of the racecourse in Hereford as something needs to change so that the access routes into the venue are safe for all.

I urged those in charge of the course to consider resurfacing the track but did acknowledge that this would be costly if it was an option. there would also be a potential loss of independence for our community if access to the site was hampered by the current condition of the track.

As a member of the disabled community I would like to work with the management of Hereford Racecourse to resolve this issue that I would define it as “an accident waiting to happen” as I have previously said.

I would love to attend the races on a regular basis!!!!

The video that I recently took at the venue shows how much I was bouncing round in my wheelchair when moving along the gravelled area, this was evident.
