As a wheelchair user I’m dreading the prospect of more bins being added to the streets of Herefordshire because it is going to be chaos for our (the disabled) community.
Waste collection days are already challenging enough for us without adding even more bins to our streets.
As you, my readers and social media followers might already know the UK government are planning to introduce food waste collections from March 2026.
Herefordshire Council revealed recently that it is considering bringing the new measures early so that the county is ready for the national implementation next year.
My clear but simple message to Herefordshire Council is this, “ I support and accept the reasons why as an authority you are keen to bring in the measures earlier than the governments timeframe”.
“As a wheelchair user and disability activist from the county all I ask is that your waste management collection teams return bins to where they were collected from”.
“ There have been so many occasions in recent years where I have found myself having to venture onto the road in order to get around a bin which has not been returned to where it was found in the first place by your teams”.
“I’m fed up along with others from our community of having to wheel into bins on pavements just to move them out of my way”.
“ This has been an issue for a number of years now and it’s time for you to act and do something about it even more so now we are getting even more bins” .
“ it has to stop today and not in 5 or 10 years time when it is most convenient for you”
