Thousands of fans will head to Villa Park this evening (10th July,2025) to see Kendrick Lamar and SZA in concert.
West Midlands Trains (WMT) installed accessible waiting spaces and other types of signage at both Witton Lane and Aston railway stations last year.
In November 2023 I met with senior officials from the operator at Witton where I showed them what I and others experienced at the station after attending events at Villa Park.
I suggested that they consider installing waiting spaces and other types of accessiblity signage to assist those travelling with disabilities and mobility issues from the station.
Much to my surprise the operator agreed and set about working on how to install the spaces.
December 2024 saw myself and some members of the team from WMT return to Witton and decide where spaces would be situated.
It was felt that they would be best placed next to where the ramps would usually be stored on the platforms at the station.
My message to those travelling to and from Villa Park for the concert later is a clear but simple and is this, please be mindful of where you stand on the platforms at both stations as those needing assistance to board services home will need access to the spaces at all times.
If you travel by rail on a regular basis and require assistance to board or disembark services, your assisted travel can be booked up 2 hours before departure in one of 3 ways.

I wish all those attending the concert a safe and enjoyable evening and thank them for taking the time to read this post about what accessiblity provision is on offer to them at both stations around Villa Park.
As always it is only right that I take the opportunity to thank the incredible team at WMT as their support with this project in the last year or so has been incredible, it hasn’t gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
A thank you must also go to each and everyone of you, my loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest post, it doesn’t go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
