Worcester Foregate Street and Shrub Hill railway stations are easier to navigate for those with disabilities & mobility issues following the success of waiting spaces on the platforms.

Worcester Foregate Street and Shrub Hill railway stations which are managed by West Midlands Trains (WMT) saw the installation of waiting spaces and other types of signage on the platforms last year (2024).

I recently visited Foregate Street station for the first time since the installation was completed by the operator to check out the spaces for myself.

The platforms at the station are known for becoming very congested at peak times of the day (in the mornings and evenings) on weekdays.

Our community can now been seen by station staff and onboard train crew when waiting for trains thanks to the spaces.

My message to the residents of Worcester and anyone else who uses Foregate Street or Shrub Hill stations when commuting around the region and beyond by rail is this……..

Please be mindful of where you stand on the platforms at both railway stations, especially Foregate Street as those needing assistance to board services will need access to the waiting spaces at all times.

The blue and white boxes feature a white wheelchair logo and the words “ For mobility assistance, please wait here” and are painted on the floor.

However the space can be found in the centre of the platform on the side where passengers enter and exit the station near to where the lift is located.

If you travel by rail on a regular basis and require assistance to board or disembark services, your assisted travel can be booked upto 2 hours before departure in 1 of 3 ways:

By Phone: 0800 024 8998 or by using Next Generation Text – 18001 0800 024 8998.

A massive thank you must go to the incredible team at WMT (West Midlands Trains) who have gone above and beyond in recent months to improve the accessibility of the network that they manage. It doesn’t go unnoticed and is of course very much appreciated as always.
