Accessible waiting spaces and other types of signage have been installed at 9 railway stations on the cross city north railway line by West Midlands Trains. This follows the success of the spaces and signage at other railway stations in the region that are managed by the operator.
The stations in Shenstone, Blake Street, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Litchfield City, Erdington, Wylde Green, Chester Road and Gravelly Hill are now accessible to all meaning that those with disabilities and mobility issues can travel with ease across the rail network in the region.
A number of stations on the network have had the spaces since early 2024 and they are: Aston, Witton Lane, Coventry Arena, The Hawthorns, Kenilworth, Selly Oak, Telford Central, Lye, Worcester Foregate Street and Worcester Shrub Hill.
The spaces come in the form of blue and white boxes featuring a white wheelchair logo and the words “for mobility assistance, please wait here”, signage is positioned directly behind the spaces so that they can be seen from distance by someone trying to access them.
My message remains the same from 2024 to other passengers using the stations that have the spaces and is this, ” please be mindful of where you stand of the platforms at the stations as those needing assistance to board services will need access to the spaces at all time”
” so far your support with this across the region has been nothing short of incredible, meaning that those who need assistance to travel by rail don’t have to worry about running into any difficulties at stations whilst waiting for trains”.
If you travel by rail on a regular basis and require assistance to board or disembark services, your assisted travel can be booked up to 2 hours before departure in 1 of 3 ways:
By Phone: 0800 024 8998 or by using Next Generation Text – 18001 0800 024 8998.

As I have said in a previous post, it is the disabled communities legal right to just ” turn up and go”, you do not need to book assisted travel prior to making a journey but you can of course do so if you wish.

It’s only right that I once again take the opportunity to thank the incredible team at West Midlands Trains for once again going above and beyond to ensure that our community can travel with confidence and ease across the network that they manage.
Your dedication and hard work to this project hasn’t gone unnoticed and is of course very appreciated.
