Accessibility across the rail network has improved in recent years thanks to waiting spaces and signage at station

Assisted travel across the rail network in the midlands has improved thanks to waiting spaces and signage at some stations in the region, however there is still along way to go until things get anywhere near perfect.

One of the regions biggest operator has taken accessibility to its heart which has seen accessible waiting spaces and other types of signage installed at stations managed by them.

In 2024 Worcester foregate street and shrub hill stations were added to the first phase of stations to see improvements and they were: Aston, Witton, Kenilworth, Lye, Selly Oak, Telford Central, The Hawthorns, Coventry Arena.

This year has seen phase 2 completed with Sutton Coldfield, Shenstone, Blake Street, Gravelly Hill, Wylde Green, Four Oaks, Chester Road, Erdington and Litchfield City having the spaces and signage installed on the platforms.

There are however several stations such as Ledbury in north Herefordshire that could benefit from these types of improvements so that those with disabilities and other mobility issues can travel with ease on this type of public transport.

Once onboard trains our community face other challenges around safety and that comes in the form of not being able to actually use the dedicated spaces that are there to keep us safe.
