The pavement on one of Hereford’s busiest roads in an “accident waiting to happen” however the local authority refuse to acknowledge it

The pavement on one of Hereford’s busiest roads is an “accident waiting to happen” for those who use wheelchairs, mobility scooters and other mobility aids.

I contacted Herefordshire Council on the 9th of October to report the issue of an defect on the pavement network, however they have refused to acknowledge that its an issue despite my wheelchair nearly toppling over on three occasions in recent days.

Herefordshire Council have said that the issue raised does not meet the threshold outlined within the highways maintenance plan against the risk based approach, where we would carry out immediate repairs, they continue, or relates to an issue that is not within our responsibility.

The big question is ” what are they waiting for, someone to have a serious accident before they act”?.

My message to officials at the local authority is a clear one and is this, please don’t just stand back and wait for there to be a serious accident at this location. I would like to think that we have a good working relationship, I am not just reporting this to get attention from you.

As someone who uses a wheelchair on a daily basis to get around I rely on Herefordshire’s pavement network being in good working order so that I am safe when moving around the streets of our beautiful country.

Lets meet and discuss this issue like the adults that we are meant to be, I am prepared to listen to what you have to say and I hope you would repay the favour, that’s all I ask.
