As a wheelchair user disabled car parking spaces are a vital part of keeping active within the community, but there aren’t enough in Herefordshire

Disabled car parking spaces are a vital part of me as a wheelchair user keeping active within the community, however there simply aren’t enough spaces in the counties car parks.

This morning (13th of October, 2025) I have written to the cabinet member who is in charge of the counties car parks to ask if a couple of disabled parking bays can be installed in one of the cities biggest parking locations for residents.

At present there are no accessible spaces at this location meaning that it can be incredibly difficult for those requiring the use of space to exit or enter to a vehicle with the use of a ramp.

I have also submitted a freedom of information (FOI) request to the local authority in a bid to establish how many accessible car parking spaces there are in the counties car parks and why there currently aren’t any in the particular one, I will not name.

My message to the cabinet member for roads and regulatory services at Herefordshire Council and there officers is a clear but simply and is this, please look at how many accessible parking bays there are at key locations within the county, the accessibility of this can be difficult at the best times and is made even harder when there are no spaces.

I am more than happy to meet with you to discuss this issue in further detail so that we can work together and resolve it in a timely manner.
