As a disabled supporter of Aston Villa I shouldn’t have to consider weather I should renew my club membership for the 2026/27 campaign because of a ridiculous policy surrounding the sale of match tickets.
Early September saw me purchase a wheelchair bay in the Trinity Road Stand at Villa Park alongside a personal assistant ticket for the club’s UEFA Europa League clash with BSC Young Boys which is due to take place at the end of November.
Those reading this will know by now that I asked the ticketing team at the claret and blue club if I could have a refund for the match tickets purchased on October the 15th, 2025.
The club’s current policy is not to offer any refund on home tickets for the 2025/26 season as per there terms and conditions, with there also not being a resale option for UEFA Europa League fixtures.
I recently wrote to Francesco Calvo who is the President of Business Operations at Aston Villa, where I urged him to change the current ticketing policy to reflect the need for leniency surrounding disabled supporters not being able to attend matches if their circumstance changes around the support they require at short notice in the build-up to a matchday.
If I had a personal assistant available to attend the match with me, I would 100% be inside the stadium at the time of kick off, this was something that I stated within my letter to the club.
It really begs the question, do they care about there disabled supporter fan base at one of the biggest football clubs in the Midlands, right now I think not.
It is sad to think that the club has been very supportive of my work with the team at West Midlands Trains (WMT) to improve the experience of those disabled supporters travelling to and from matches or events at the stadium by rail. I hope that all of this doesn’t ruin the current relationship that I have with the football club.
