This evening, I have managed to get a refund for the match tickets that I purchased for Aston Villa’s Europa league clash with BSC Young boys in late November.
Those reading this may remember that I contacted the club earlier this month and asked if I could have my money back for tickets that I could no longer use due to not having a PA available to attend that above match with me.
The ticketing team at the club told me that they were unable to offer refunds on home match tickets for the 2025/26 season under their terms and conditions.
I also asked if it would be possible for the club to give my ticket to a wheelchair user who was able to attend this match and again I was told that this wasn’t an option.
In the last hour or so villas President of Business Operations , Francesco Calvo has been in touch to say that I am being given a full refund as a gesture of goodwill.
He went on to add that the club is exploring the possibility of creating a PA buddy system which would allow their disabled supporters to continue attending matches if they didn’t have one of their own personal assistants available to attend a match with them.
Finally, he praised the work that I have done with both the club and the team at West Midlands Trains around the accessibility of Aston and Witton railway stations for supporters wishing to use the rail network on match days if they have disabilities.
It is pleasing to say that the club have invited me to join an accessibility specific network as part of the fan advisory group which they are in the process of establishing.
However, in my view it should never have come to this and I still believe that despite everything that the club is doing around the issue of accessibility for those with disabilities who support the club, it is time for them to be more lenient with situations like these without supporters having to fight them.
Once again it is only right that I thank the club for taking this matter so seriously and dealing with it in a timely manner, this hasn’t gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
