Every November football clubs up and down the country pay their respects to our fallen service personnel.
The act of remembrance normally takes place at the clubs closest home game to armistice day on the 11th of November.
In 2022 I attended a Carabao Cup third round fixture where I was able to pay my respects to those who have sacrificed their lives for our safety along with thousands of others, as this was the host clubs closest fixture to armistice day.
This was the first time that I’ve attended a football match where the clubs involved have United to thank those who have served our country on our behalf.
On that occasion it was disappointing to see some supporters in the away section of the stadium fail to pay their respects in a dignified manner. As the match referee blew his whistle to start the 2 minute silence some supporters in the stadium decided to ruin the tribute by making noise.
Acts like these are incredibly frustrating for people like myself who want to pay tribute to those who have risked their safety for the people of the United Kingdom.
It’s vital that organisations like the English football league urge clubs within there leagues to carry out acts of remembrance each year.
In the future I would like to go to other football matches where clubs are saying thank you to those who have as I’ve already mentioned risked their safety to keep our country safe from invasion.
I accept that there will be people reading this who will be thinking why is he writing another post of this nature and my answer to this question is this.
I write posts like these because I believe it is important that every element of our society has the opportunity to pay there respects to those who go above and beyond to ensure the safety of us and the communities that we live in.
