As someone with a disability I am not a piece on a chess board that can be messed with by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Prime Minister and of course there government.
Those reading this will know by now that in early 2025 the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions announced cuts to welfare benefits like personal independence payments (PIP)
Unfortunately this put the fear of god into both myself and thousands of others with disabilities who thought that we were about to lose the benefits we rely on to live our best lives.
I spent many weeks wondering if I was about to lose funds which allow me to keep things like my wheelchair going when it runs into difficulties and needs repairs.
Our communities mental health wasn’t worth the 7bn pounds that these cuts actually cost the treasury.
My message to the Chancellor, Prime Minister and there government is a clear one and this, “the impact that surrounded the uncertainty of the welfare benefit cuts, left myself and many like me wondering if we would be left without the benefits that we rely on a daily basis”.
” Consultation was needed with disabled people along with the charities who support us in living our best lives, this is the only way that a similar situation won’t be allowed to happen again in the future, please don’t use me or my friends in this way again”
” However it is important note that I welcome the return of face to face assessments for the benefits, so that claimants can be awarded the funds needed to get them right level of support”.
