I am still planning on attending Aston Villa’s final home match in the Europa league next year despite the disorder seen at recent European matches in Birmingham.

I was meant to be heading to Villa Park in Birmingham this evening for Aston Villa’s Europa league clash with BSC Young Boys.

Villa supporters and many others will know by now that due to circumstances beyond my control I wasn’t able to be inside Villa Park come kickoff.

I am in fact, glad that I wasn’t there after the first half was overshadowed by trouble in the away section of the stadium.

This is the second match in the Europa league that has been played by Villa at home which has seen some violence.

As a wheelchair user, I wouldn’t be able to get away from any trouble that could arise both in and outside of the stadium, this has left me wondering how safe are disabled football fans at some matches.

In January next year, I will be returning to B6 when the claret and blue side take on Saltzberg in there final home league stage fixture of the competition.

At present, I am planning on travelling to Birmingham for the match which is due to take place on January the 29th.

However, I will be considering how I can keep myself safe both in and outside of the stadium whilst attending the fixture.

It is important to note that this is not an everyday occurrence within domestic football in the United Kingdom.

The lives of those with disabilities do matter just like everyone else who lives within our societies and that is why sometimes we have to take decisions around whether or not to attend European football matches in order to keep ourselves safe.

It is only right that I take this opportunity to place on record my thanks to the Trinity Road stand stewarding team at Villa Park who support us to enjoy matches safely, this doesn’t go unnoticed and is as always very much appreciated.
