All I want for Christmas is to have a more accessible rail network across the Midlands for those with disabilities or mobility issues.

The festive period has finally arrived and that has got me thinking about what it is that I actually want for Christmas this year. Most of you reading this will be thinking it is gifts that I want , but boy are you very wrong.

My dream gift this Christmas would be having a more accessible rail network for those with disabilities or mobility issues who rely on it to have some independence.

Since November 2023 I have been working with the team at West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway to improve the accessibility of the network that they are responsible for on behalf of those with disabilities or mobility issues.

I still cannot believe that at present (sorry for the ridiculous pun) there are 19 railway stations in the region managed by the operator that currently have spaces with accompanying signage on the platforms.

Aston, Witton Lane, Coventry Arena, The Hawthorns, Kenilworth, Lye, Worcester Foregate Street, Worcester Shrub Hill, Shenstone, Blake Street, Gravelly Hill, Wylde Green, Erdington, Chester Road, Litchfield City, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, Telford Central and Selly Oak are the stations with these improvements.

It was great waking up this morning knowing that 2026 will bring more stations with the accessibility tools so that more people with disabilities and mobility issues can travel with confidence on the railway in our region.

Do you travel by rail on a regular basis and require assistance to board or disembark trains?, your assisted travel can be booked up to 2 hours before departure in 1 of 3 ways:

Online: https://booking.passengerassistance.com.

However you do have a legal right to just turn up and go without booking any assistance prior to travel.

It is only right that I take this opportunity to thank the team at West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway for there hard work and dedication to this project which has not gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated as always.

I hope you are all able to have a safe, enjoyable, peaceful festive period which is something that you deserve after a very busy year across the network especially with the station accessibility project.

Hopefully all of you, my loyal readers and social media followers will also have a safe, enjoyable and peaceful festive period.

Merry Christmas
