Boycotting football matches at Villa Park in Birmingham is how I started 2025 as an Aston Villa supporter

As an Aston Villa supporter I started the year off by boycotting attending football matches or events at Villa Park, I made this decision as a direct result of the clubs ticket prices for premier league and European matches.

In a post published on the 26th of August 2024, I recalled that I was not prepared to pay between £55 and £72 for match tickets depending on where the wheelchair bay is located in the stadium that I want to purchase.

Finally in June this year I thought ” what the heck” and decided to once again take out an adult membership with the club, since then I’ve only attended one Aston Villa fixture this season (2025/26) so far and that was our Europa League tie against Italian side Bologna in September.

Since our match with Bologna earlier this season I have attempted to attend our league clash with Burnley and the Europa League match with BSC Young Boys however due to circumstances beyond my control this wasn’t possible.

Spending some time trying to get a refund for the BSC Young Boys match tickets I purchased wasn’t easy after being told by the club’s ticketing team that it wasn’t possible for them to offer refunds on home match tickets for the 2025/26 season.

All I wanted was for another wheelchair user who wanted to and could attend the match to have my tickets so that they did not go to waste.

Before our match with Bologna I travelled to villa Park for the first time in well over a year by rail for England’s FIFA World Cup Qualifier with Andorra on Saturday the 6th of September. It’s fair to say that this experience was far from plain sailing.

If you would like a reminder of what I experienced that day the post I wrote can be found here: https://just-being-cp.co.uk/2025/09/06/england-vs-andorra-should-have-an-occasion-to-remember-instead-it-turned-into-a-nightmare/

The last few months have seen me challenge villa on a number of issues including, the prices of tickets for those with disabilities so that our community can continue attending matches in B6.

RB Salzburg in the Europa League will be the next match that will be in attendance for at the of this month which I am really excited for, even after Tuesday night’s 4-1 defeat to the gunners at the Emirates.

It’s only right that I take the opportunity to thank all villa supporters who have supported my work in 2025 to ensure that all supporters are able to travel home by rail from matches with ease and confidence, it hasn’t gone unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
