I spent a large part of 2025, thinking ” for mobility assistance, please wait here” as my work with West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway continued.
Those reading this will definitely know by now that I first met with official’s from the operator at Witton Lane railway station near Birmingham in November 2023 where I was able to them the challenges I and others faced when using the rail network to travel around the region.
It was at this point where I suggested the introduction of waiting spaces and signage mirroring the same messaging on the platforms at stations which are either unstaffed or have high volumes of passenger assistance requests passing through.
The operator liked the idea and began working out how to implement it at stations on the network, 2025 has seen a number of stations get the new accessibility tools and they are:
Shenstone
Blake Street
Gravelly Hill
Erdington
Wylde Green
Chester Road
Sutton Coldfield
Lichfield City
Four Oaks
This followed the introduction of the same tools at the following stations in the first phase of the project in 2024.
Aston
Witton Lane
Coventry Arena
The Hawthorns
Kenilworth
Lye
Worcester Foregate Street
Worcester Shrub Hill
Telford Central
Selly Oak
This year (2026) the project is set to continue, so stay tuned for the latest updates that I will be posting about throughout the year.
