Shenstone railway station in Shropshire saw accessible waiting spaces and signage installed on the platforms in 2025.
Blue and white boxes which feature a white wheelchair logo and the words “ for mobility assistance, please wait here” sit alongside a blue sign that’s mounted to the station waiting room wall mirroring the same messaging.
These accessibility tools were introduced at the station following successful trials of the tools at Aston and Witton Lane stations near Villa Park, the home of Aston Villa football club.
There are a number of stations managed by West Midlands Railway that have these tools and they are:
Aston
Witton Lane
The Hawthorns
Coventry Arena
Kenilworth
Lye
Worcester Foregate Street
Worcester Shrub Hill
Telford Central
Selly Oak
Blake Street
Erdington
Gravelly Hill
Chester Road
Wylde Green
Lichfield City
Four Oaks
Sutton Coldfield
My message to the communities living around the railway station in Shenstone is this, the waiting spaces are designed to support those requiring assistance to board or disembark services at your local train station.
Should you require assistance to board trains and cannot find a member of staff please head to one of the spaces and train crew will be able to assist you onto the train.
However, there is also the option for you to book your assisted travel up to 2 hours before departure in 1 of 3 ways:
By Phone: 0800 024 8998 or by using Next Generation Text – 18001 0800 024 8998.
Online: https://booking.passengerassistance.com
Using the App: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/passenger-assistance/id1542190496
However, you do have a legal right to turn up at a railway station and travel without booking any assistance prior to departure.

I would like to thank West Midlands Railway for installing these tools at the railway station in Shenstone it doesn’t go unnoticed and is very much appreciated as always.
A thank you must also go to Sarah Edwards , the member of Parliament for Tamworth who recently promoted the waiting spaces and signage at Shenstone (which is in her constituency) and the tools at some of the other stations with them on social media recently.
Finally, thank you to each and everyone of you, my loyal readers and social media followers who continually take the time out of your busy schedules to read my latest posts, it doesn’t go unnoticed and is very much appreciated.
