I can travel to Dunblane railway station in central Scotland now it has step free access to all platforms after years of not, the time has come for Ledbury station in Herefordshire to follow suit.

One Herefordshire based railway station currently has no step free access to both platforms for those with mobility issues or disabilities and there was a station in central Scotland that was the same until some years ago.

Dunblane railway station in central Scotland did not have this (step free) access to all platforms until works began to change that in the February of 2014, 3.5 million pounds was spent on station upgrades in Dunblane which ensured that those with disabilities or mobility issues could access all 3 platforms at the station with ease.

The railway station in Ledbury, Herefordshire is not currently accessible to those with access needs from the eastbound platform, meaning that I can only currently get off at the station on westbound platform in the direction of Hereford.

if Dunblane station in Scotland can become step free after years I see no reason why Ledbury can’t follow it’s lead!. Another station with step free access that I used on regular basis between 2012 and 2014 is Tile Hill station near Coventry, there is a ramp behind the stairwell to the footbridge at the station so passengers with disabilities or mobility issues can exit the station ease from the other platform.

These are just a couple of examples with regards to how our (the disabled) community can travel around the nation with ease from stations that could have previously been classed as inaccessible to our community.

I am once again urging the Transport Secretary, Heidi Alexander MP and the Minister for Rail, Lord Hendy of Richmond Hill CBE to reverse their decision to cancel the funding for accessibility improvements at Ledbury station.

My message to them both is clear and this is, “if the likes of Dunblane railway station near Stirling in central Scotland can become step free after many years of it not then why can’t a solution be found for Ledbury station in Herefordshire”.

” Even Tile Hill railway station near Coventry has step free access throughout the station thanks in large part to a ramp behind the stairwell to the stations footbridge meaning that passengers with disabilities or mobility issues are able to exit the station with ease from the ticket office side.”

” It is time that a footbridge is installed at the station in Ledbury so that both platforms are fully accessible to all and we don’t have to waste any time in travelling up the railway line to Colwall and change trains there, arriving into the market town (Ledbury) by rail on the westbound side of the station”.

” Please do not wait the next 5 or 10 years to reverse this disgusting decision which should not have even been made in the first place by you and your departmental officials at the Department for Transport”
