The welfare benefit reform scandal was the final nail in the Prime Minister‘s premiership in my opinion.

When the government and Sir Keir Starmer announced a review into the welfare benefit, personal independence payment that was the end of the Prime Minister‘s premiership in my opinion.

The way that scandal has been handled put the fear of God into those with disabilities as we wondered if we were about to lose our much needed benefits.

I spent weeks wondering if I was set to lose the financial payments that I rely so heavily on as someone who uses a wheelchair to navigate daily life.

Those in power were standing at the dispatch boxes in the House of Commons and reeling off a list of numbers, however they weren’t saying who within the disabled community would be affected by this decision.

After so much backlash from our community and the charities who support us, the government and the Prime Minister were forced to do a U-turn on this idea of reform.

There is still a review being carried out into who receives this benefit by the Department for Work and pensions so only time will tell with regards to who is most at risk of losing this benefit.

My message to Prime Minister is a clear and simple one and is this, please just do the right thing and step aside so that a new leader and Prime Minister can be appointed to take our beloved country forward.

It is time for you to walk away and accept that you have done all you can for our beautiful country.

I am a valued member of our society along with all of my friends who identify as having a disability, but last year we didn’t feel like this was the case, when you were threatening to take our benefits away.

It is time for you to go Prime Minister!!!
