Plenty of big parking spaces can be found in Hereford’s biggest car park that could easily be turned into disabled ones by Herefordshire Council.

Merton meadow is situated in the city centre and is home to the counties main football stadium.

The site has a lot of big parking spaces just outside the stadium’s main entrance that would make decent sized spaces for those with disabilities or mobility issues to use if they wished to park at the site.

In October last year I wrote to the Cabinet Member for Roads and Regulatory services at Herefordshire Council about the issue.

This morning (Tuesday 10th January,2026) I met with the authorities parking services manager in Merton Meadow.

Where we discussed the issue in hand (the fact that there are currently no disabled parking bays at the site), which makes it very difficult for those with mobility issues or disabilities to either park or get dropped off at present.

I made it clear that’s disabled spaces being added to the existing infrastructure in Merton Meadow car park would make the lives of our community so much better for many years to come when trying to remain independent as possible.

Conversations were relatively positive which of course gives me some hope that the situation will improve, when it comes to those with disabilities and mobility issues having somewhere safe to park at the site. 

There is not much that I’m able to say at present about how this issue will be resolved, so watch this space (sorry for the ridiculous pun) for future updates.

It’s only right that I take this opportunity to thank the team at Herefordshire Council for listening to and taking my concerns seriously about the lack of disabled parking bays in arguably the counties biggest car park.
